Ms. Turrell

Ms. Turrell is excited to be teaching primary music this year at Plaza Vista School along with 4-8th grade music. She grew up in a musical family and has been teaching vocal music in IUSD for 13 years. With a bachelor’s in music from University of California, Irvine and a master’s in music from The University of Texas at Austin, Ms. Turrell is an accomplished musician and singer in classical repertoire, musical theater, and contemporary styles. She has been a vocal coach to greats like Oscar and Grammy winner Paul Williams, and has worked with Judy Collins and Emmy-award-winner Faith Rivera. Ms. Turrell is the author and creator of a series of music theory/musicianship books, “Music in Practice”, used by students in IUSD. Ms. Turrell also has 16 years of experience as an adjunct music professor teaching students at Soka University and Cypress College. In 2012, Ms. Turrell was named IUSD’s visual and performing arts’ Teacher of the Year award.
